DSS-1 disk drive resource page – Revised 10/04/2001

Probably the most common component failure in the DSS-1 is the floppy disk drive.
Many, many people have asked me in the past about replacements. I have tried many
different drives in the DSS-1 myself without success. I even called on the original drive
manufacturer (Cannon) and they were no help at all.

Finally, a replacement drive for the DSS-1 is available at a very reasonable price.
Route 66 Studios is the place to go to purchase your DSS-1 drive replacement.
When you order your drive from Richard, be certain to tell him you heard about the
replacement drives from me.
J

I have recently installed one of Richard’s replacement drives in both my DSS-1 and my
DSS-1ex and have run both of them through the disk functions for testing. I am VERY
happy to report that the replacement drive performed all expected functions perfectly.
Richard’s work is great for all DSS-1 users. Even if your DSS-1 drive is working, you
should pick up a spare. That’s what I did.

The link below provides a very detailed instruction (with photos) of how to install the
new drive in the DSS-1 drive. It is not a difficult task. Richard does send simple
instructions with the drive. And, he has some photos and instructions at his site.
