MOTM VISIO Template v1.0 brought to you by Fred Beecher First, thanks to Dave Bradley, whose panel design images I used to make the Parameter shapes. This template lets you model two 19" rows of modules. If you need more than this, change the page size (or add another page) and copy & paste the guides. MAKING A PATCH SHEET 1. Put the .vss and .vst in the same directory. 2. Open visio 3. Use the browser window to select "motm.vst" 4. Go to File > Stencils > Open Stencil, and select motm.vss 5. If you have more than two rows of modules, create additional pages and copy & paste the guides to those pages (hit ctrl-a ctrl-c on the first page, then ctrl-v on the new page; move the guides so that the topmost and leftmost guides intersect at x=.25, y=.25) 6. Drink a beer. WORKING WITH SHAPES When you move shapes against a guide, the green squares will turn red. This means that the shape is glued to the guide, and if you move the guide you move all the shapes glued to it. Shapes will automatically snap to the guides, whether they are visible in front of the shapes or not. To change the label on shapes that have them, double click the shape and then single click the label in the new window that comes up. You may have to resize the label's text box. Panels: Slide these against the guides, starting with the leftmost/topmost guide. Then just stack 'em together. Parameters: These shapes are essentially the silkscreening on your panels. You put Knob shapes on top of them. Unipolar = 0 - 10, Bipolar = -5 - +5. Glue these to the vertical guides just inside of the panel borders. There are four horizontal guides (per panel) for these shapes. Glue the bottom of the shapes to these guides. Jacks: There are two more closely spaced horizontal guides toward the bottom of each row. Glue the bottoms of Jack shapes to these guides. Glue their sides to the same guides you glue Parameters to. Patched Jack shapes represent jacks with patchcords in them. Guess what Empty Jack shapes represent. Anyway, you can use the Patchcord shape to attach two Patched Jack shapes together. More on that later. Knobs: Place these shapes on top of parameter shapes. DO NOT glue these to any guides. Use the rotate tool to grab a knob shape by the corner to turn it to the correct setting. Patchcords: Hook both ends to Patched Jack shapes. You may want to change the line color for each cord to make them easier to differentiate. Missing Shapes: I haven't yet done any shapes for LEDs or switches, mostly because LEDs don't really need to be modeled, and switches are really hard. :) These will be added in the next update. FUTURE 1. Switch shape 2. Shapes of all MOTM modules. Enjoy!
