Calibrate your Blacet Time Machine without Frequency Counter
Here is a method to calibrate your Time Machine without a frequency counter. You will
need a voltmeter. And, you will need to be careful not to short points together as you
check your voltages. The two trimmers involved are RT1 and RT2.
1. Set the MOD mix control to EXT/ENV (fully clockwise).
2. Set the delay pot on the control panel fully counter-clockwise.
3. Connect your voltmeter common lead to ground somewhere. I normally use the
ground on one of the jacks.
4. Touch your voltmeter to pin # 14 on IC1, the LM324LN. Adjust RT1 until the voltage
at this pin is about +1.1 volts.
5. Set the delay pot on the control panel fully clockwise.
6. Touch your voltmeter to pin # 14 in IC1, the LM324LN, Adjust RT2 until the voltage at
this pin is about -5.7 volts.
7. These two trimmers interact. So, you will need to repeat this procedure until you get
close to these voltages.
Don't get hung up on the exact voltages. The exact frequency of the HF LFO is not
critical. But, it sets the minimum and maximum delay times. If you get reasonable close
to these voltages (say within 0.2 volts), you're good.
Be careful when checking the voltages in pin 14 of IC1 not to accidentally short to other
pins. Fortunately, shorting to the pin next to it (pin 13) is a non-critical error and will not
hurt the chip. But, it will sure make your readings wrong.
